what to Expect:
The repair Process:
So you have incurred damage to your vehicle and found yourself in need of a quality focused independent auto body / collision repair shop and you bring it to the team at Van Heel Coachworks. Here is what the process looks like in detail from start to finish.
Step 1: You file a claim with your insurance company, whether it’s collision or comprehensive and you are given a claim number. Please bring this number and a copy of your insurance card. This is where all the hard work you have to do ends. You DO NOT have to go through the work of submitting endless photos to your insurance company, let us take care of that for you and take the burden off you.
Step 2: The Estimate & “Blueprinting”: We will take countless photos of your vehicle and write a detailed comprehensive preliminary estimate after documenting any and all of the damage. We then take all of the of the pictures and the repair estimate and submit them to your insurance provider on your behalf. If your vehicle is drivable, we can take the photos and you can keep driving your car until it is ready for your scheduled appointment.
Step 3: The repair process begins. We begin by pulling all of the repair procedures for your exact vehicle by vin number. We then will complete what is called the “Tare-Down”, which is simply removing all of the parts that need to be removed to begin repairs. Parts such as side windshields and back windows are often required to be removed for a proper refinish repair. We then organize all fasteners in containers with detailed labeling along with the removed parts. At this point we will begin to make the repairs, replace parts and locate any hidden damage and notify your insurance of the additional damage that we will be repairing.
Step 4: Color match and color tinting. We begin by taking a “Camera Shot” of the color on your car with our PPG Digi-Match Color Spectrometer after color sanding and buffing a portion of undamaged paint on the adjacent panel(s) of the panel(s) that we’ll be repairing/replacing and refinishing. We then input that information into our computer system and compare it against the variants for your paint code. If a desirable match isn’t available, we tint the color to match the paint on your vehicle for a seamless repair in the refinish process.
Step 5: Refinish. At this point all of the repairs are complete. We will pull your vehicle in the booth to begin the refinish (Painting) process using PPG paint products with the appropriate tinted color we mix in house that we already have matched to your vehicle. This will consist of Sealer, Base Coat and then premium clear coat. We will blend the color and then apply the clear coat to match & replicate the factory finish on your vehicle.
Step 6: Reassembly. Now all repairs are complete and the vehicle has been refinished as required. Now we will reinstall all parts that were removed for the repair process and install new parts as well such as emblems, trim pieces, and numerous other parts that are one time use. The glass gets reinstalled into your vehicle by our glass professionals. Now any post repair recalibrations of advanced vehicle systems will be performed as required. To finish up, we will clean the vehicle so it looks like the day it rolled off the showroom floor. We know that you take a lot of pride in your vehicle; and we do too!
Step 7: Now the vehicle is ready for pick up. We will file what is called a supplement (In most cases) that bills your insurance company for any additional parts/materials required to complete repairs on your vehicle bring it back to pre-loss condition.
Step 8: Delivery. It’s now time for you to take delivery of your completed vehicle and get back to enjoying it! Baron will walk you through all of the repairs that have been completed so you know exactly what was done.
